Railcare Bid Manager Daniel Cartwright takes to the footplate of Tornado Following in the footsteps of Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, Railcare's Bid Manger Daniel Cartwright took to the footplate of celebrity steam locomotive; LNER Peppercorn Class A1, 60163 Tornado (the first new mainline steam locomotive to be built in Britain since 1960).
The trip was an early 40th Birthday Present from Dan's wife and children and saw him ride the footplate on the Severn Valley Railway over the 16 miles from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on Sunday 1st November.
"I thoroughly enjoyed it and got to shovel coal (without getting covered in soot) and I blew the whistle too! As the crowds gathered to take photographs at Bridgnorth my daughter joked that I had been papped!" Dan laughed.
