Apprentice Awards

The latest intake of Railcare apprentices have successfully completed the refurbishment of Railcare's Simplex 'Series 'G' type 103 locomotive 'Titchie'. Pete Waterman, a passionate advocate of apprentice schemes, attended the award ceremony and presented each apprentice with a unique signed painting of the unit.

Railcare's apprentice programme partners both Aylesbury Training Group and Bedford Training Group and enables participants to experience a wide range of disciplines over a six month period, structured by a personal development plan and dedicated training mentors.

When asked about their involvement in the project the apprentices were unanimous in their praise for the 'great experience' that it had given them and took the opportunity to thank the twenty-four members of staff that had given their time and experience to help.

Titchie was delivered to Wolverton in 1978 and was initially used to move timber to and from the sawmill, more recently it has been used to move bogies around Railcare's Wolverton works. With a re-conditioned engine and new Railcare livery it is hoped that the unit will continue to serve for many more years to come.

The apprentices who took part in the refurbishment were:

Perry Atkins, Rhys Curtis, Matthew Nobes, Jacob Seward, Damon Sweet, Dean Walker,
